Thurgood Marshall was confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice, becoming the first African American to serve on the US Supreme Court. Prior to this appointment, Marshall was an exceptional lawyer working closely with the NAACP and successfully arguing many Civil Rights cases, including the famous Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Ed. Marshall was also known for his support of abortion rights and strong opposition to the death penalty. But despite his liberal views, Thurgood Marshall was reportedly friendly with the director of the FBI, J. Edgar Hoover, even when Hoover actively worked to discredit many of the more radical civil rights activists.
