Millions of Americans took to the streets sporting black armbands in protest of continuing the war in Vietnam. This massive demonstration known as The Peace Moratorium occurred in cities all over the US and involved so many people that it became one of the largest anti-war initiatives in US history. In many cities, both police officers and firefighters showed their support for the Peace Moratorium but in other cities, police antagonized the demonstrators frequently targeting and arresting people of color. Similar protests occurred across Europe as peace activists gathered outside US embassies. There is always power in numbers.
