The Outer Space Treaty became active. After years of debate between the US and the Soviet Union on whether or not Outer Space should be disarmed and demilitarized, an agreement was finally reached and the resulting treaty was signed by numerous countries. The treaty defines Outer Space as the moon and all other celestial bodies, and states that it is free for exploration and scientific investigation by all nations. The treaty also declares Outer Space to be a peaceful zone and seeks to prevent any country from orbiting or stationing weapons of mass destruction there. Is it only a matter of time before colonial competition reaches Outer Space as well?
