CNPI On the Road
Members of the Community News Production Institute travel to conferences and for reporting trips. Below are some of the places we've been, and stay tuned to see if we're coming to a town near you!
Memphis, Tennessee CNPI reporters attended the National Conference for Media Reform in January, 2007. They spoke on panels, produced nationally-broadcast reports, and made sure everyone there knew about PPH! Check out our NCMR page to hear their reporters, Deepa Fernandes' keynote address, and audio from our panels.
New Orleans CNPI has made several trips to New Orleans since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the Gulf Coast. We were there covering the 2006 mayoral elections in March, and returned in November to cover the mid-term elections from the area. CNPI reporter Abdulai Bah was the first journalist invited into the largest FEMA trailer park in the region, where he trained park residents in journalism basics and using recording equipment.
Juarez, Mexico Kat Aaron and Abdulai Bah travelled to Juarez, Mexico in October of 2006 for the Border Social Forum. Reporting for Wakeup Call, Free Speech Radio News, and Informed Dissent, Kat and Abdulai interviewed participants at the Forum, residents of the colonias, community activists organizing against a metal smelting plant, and mothers of women killed in Juarez's on-going femicides, among many others.
