The first 'Freedom Flight' took off from Cuba to Miami, Florida, beginning a series of flights designed to legally bring Cuban people to the US. President Lyndon B. Johnson said he agreed to the plan in order to end an illegal boatlift from the Cuban port of Camarioca. The twice a week flights ended 7 years later and brought an estimated 260,000 Cubans to the US. The Cubans that chose to flee their country were those who opposed Castro and the Cuban Revolution. The American Media used these individuals to fuel their claim that the Castro regime was a monstrous and tyrannical government that was doing absolutely No good. Unfortunately, most Americans accept that one-sided view without questioning it or doing further research.
