Representatives from the British colonies and from Native American tribes came together for the first meeting of the Albany Congress. The meetings had been initiated by the London Board of Trade, who knew that an alliance with the Iroquois Confederacy was necessary to win the impending war with the French. After convening every day for three weeks, the Albany Congress produced The Albany Plan of Union, a document that was heavily influenced by the Iroquois Constitution and was meant to unify the British colonies in the Americas under the King. Although the plan was turned down, it was later used as a model for the Articles of Confederation, how ironic is that?
