The first Susan B. Anthony dollar entered circulation. Susan B. Anthony, who was a well-known white civil rights leader, played a crucial role in the 19th century American women's rights movement, focusing on women's suffrage. She also involved herself in the New York anti-slavery movement. Although Susan B. Anthony's anti-abortion stance has been a point of controversy, it should be taken into account that when she was active in the movement in the 1800's, abortion was life-threatening and extremely dangerous for women. Also, whereas most anti-abortion advocates placed the fault solely on women, Anthony emphasized and discussed men's role in the situation and demanded that they be held accountable for their actions.
